Madsen Calls Time On Domestic T20 Career

Derbyshire Falcons batter Wayne Madsen has announced that he will retire from playing domestic T20 cricket after the Vitality Blast North Group match against Leicestershire Foxes on Sunday at The OurCoop County Ground.
In the announcement, the 42 year-old has made it clear that he is not retiring as a player altogether, and will still continue to play for Derbyshire in Division Two of the County Championship and in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Despite this, it's undoubtedly the end of an era for both Madsen and the club, and this weekend's match against Leicestershire Foxes will have a unique and very emotional edge to it.
It goes without saying that Madsen is a certified club legend. The 2026 season has marked the Italy international's seventeenth T20 Blast campaign with Derbyshire and Sunday's game will be his 189th appearance in the competition for the club.
At the time of writing, Madsen has scored 5,108 runs overall for Derbyshire in the T20 Blast with a batting average of 32.74. His highest ever score in an individual T20 Blast innings was an unbeaten knock of 109.
Madsen's outstanding longevity and loyalty to the club means that next year's Vitality Blast campaign will have a distinctly strange feeling to it without him at the crease.
The 2026 T20 campaign has been a hugely frustrating one for the Falcons, but here's hoping that Derbyshire can sign off with a flourish and secure a victory courtesy of a Madsen century in front of the home fans at Derby!
