Derbyshire Bring In Rogers For Remainder Of The Season

Derbyshire have announced that 23 year-old left-arm seamer Will Rogers has signed a short-term deal with the club for the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Rogers has appeared for the Derbyshire Second XI side over the past couple of years and could feature for the first team when Mickey Arthur's side host Durham from August 20-23 in Division Two of the County Championship.
This late addition to the squad has been brought in due to the long list of current injuries within Derbyshire's bowling attack. Pat Brown and Harry Moore have been on the sidelines all season while Zak Chappell has also been a long-term absentee. Ben Aitchison and Rory Haydon have picked up recent injuries which saw both players miss the recent home defeat to Middlesex. In addition to this, Shoaib Bashir and Muhammad Abbas are also set to be on international duty for the majority of what remains of the domestic season.
While both white ball competitions certainly haven't gone to plan for Derbyshire Falcons, it has to be said that Mickey Arthur has been very unlucky with how many players he has lost due to injuries. With this in mind, Derbyshire's Head of Cricket has had no choice but to bring a new player in on a short-term basis.
It will be fascinating to see how effective Rogers can be for Derbyshire's first team. There's no question that he has come into the squad at a critical point in the East Midlands side's season. Due to disappointing group stage exits in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup and the Vitality Blast, a lot rides on the club's final six matches of the County Championship Division Two campaign. Derbyshire currently sit fifth in the table but are still only 18 points behind second-placed Kent. Promotion is certainly still possible to secure a successful season, but the growing injury list to key players could not have come at a worse time.
The importance of Nick Potts to the team also continues to increase week by week. At the start of the 2026 season, the 24 year-old would have been considered by many to be a fringe player still looking to get their major breakthrough in the first team. Right now, at the business end of the year, Potts is integral to the club's seam attack. A huge few weeks awaits Rogers, Potts and the club as a whole.
