Derbyshire Falcons Women slumped to a fifth defeat in a row in all competitions earlier today, after losing to Kent Women by seven wickets at The OurCoop County Ground in League Two of the Women's Vitality Blast.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Falcons went on to lose only two wickets as they batted through their 20 overs. Opener Rebecca Duckworth top scored with an unbeaten 60 from 70 deliveries, while Lauren Kenvyn was run out for 46 from 37 balls. At the end of their innings, the hosts reached 124-2.
Sadly, that amount was not enough to win the game as Kent Women chased down their target of 125 with ease. Maddie Blinkhorn-Jones's unbeaten 50 from 40 deliveries helped guide the visitors home with 32 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand. On a tough night for Derbyshire's bowling attack, only Beth Slater and Malisha Tennakoon were able to secure a wicket. The match also marked Olivia Kibler's debut for the Falcons since joining the club on loan from the Essex Women Academy side.
The result continues a worrying run of form for Derbyshire Falcons Women. Jon Dyson's side haven't won a game since Sunday 31st May and now sit bottom of the League Two table in the Women's Vitality Blast. From their seven matches played so far in this year's competition, Derbyshire have won two and lost five.
Derbyshire Falcons Women don’t have to wait long though to try and return to winning ways. The Falcons will take on Leicestershire Foxes Women at The OurCoop County Ground on Sunday in League Two of the Women's Vitality Blast. The match will start at 2:30pm. The Foxes sit just above the Falcons in the table due to a better net run rate.
