Bashir announced in England squad

Bashir was overlooked for the entire Ashes series during the winter but has convinced the selection panel enough with his early Derbyshire form to be included in the squad for the Tests.
The 22-year-old has picked up 14 wickets in five County Championship appearances making a bright start to life with Derbyshire. Bashir has 19 caps to date and will be competing in a 15-man squad with leg-spinner, Rehan Ahmed.
Bashir made his debut for England in 2024 in Visakhapatnam against India, picking up four wickets in the match. He has 68 Test wickets to his name, including four five-wicket hauls. Bashir is available for Derbyshire against Middlesex in Friday’s County Championship match at Lord’s.
Should Bashir feature, he’ll become the first Derbyshire contracted player to play for England since George Scrimshaw in 2023. He’ll also become the first Derbyshire player to feature in a Test match for England since Dominic Cork in 2002.
The squad will report for a training camp at Loughborough in the week commencing 24 May.
