Derbyshire Falcons Women registered their first victory of the 2026 season last weekend, after beating Cheshire Women at home by seven wickets in the first round of the Vitality Women’s T20 County Cup. Even though Cheshire play one tier below Jon Dyson’s side, the Falcons can take plenty of encouragement by avoiding a cup upset to bounce back from two defeats in a row in their 50 over campaign.

While Derbyshire certainly went into last weekend’s contest as favourites, the pressure would have been on to secure their first win on the board. After all, not every second-tier side was able to escape a shock defeat to a lower-tier outfit. Sussex Sharks Women suffered a hugely surprising five wicket defeat at home to Norfolk Women who currently sit bottom of Division 2B in League 3 of the T20 format. A solid, disciplined performance from Derbyshire ensured that they didn’t fall at the first hurdle.
