Derbyshire’s superb victory over Middlesex was certainly one to be proud of from a supporter’s point of view. It’s a rare event, the first win at Lord’s, the home of cricket, since 2002 in the red ball format of the game.
It also wasn’t supposed to be that simple, Derbyshire are forever a team that if there is an object in front of them, they find an impossible way to work their way around it without a simple plan.
However, enough of that pessimism, it’s Derbyshire after all. After failing to collect a win in their opening two championship fixtures when they were both in Derbyshire’s grasp to pick up victories in both, the mood certainly changed amongst the faithful. The desperate attempt to see it through in both games, in my opinion, had a bearing on the next two losses, disappointing performances against Gloucestershire and Kent.
