The 31-year-old delayed Derbyshire’s progress with 19-year old Caleb Falconer with a stand of 107 for the home side as they cleared a first-innings deficit of nearly 200.
Middlesex reached 278 for eight at the close of play, which was ended for bad light, a lead of 79 runs. Derbyshire bowlers had bowled purposely throughout the day with Ben Aitchison and Rory Haydon picking up a couple of wickets each.
Aitchison, who picked up five wickets in the first innings and scored a maiden hundred carried on his form in the second dig, beating the edge of the bat several times in the morning when the home side resumed on 13 for one.
