Derbyshire came into the encounter on the back of two wins in the Championship looking to test themselves against top of the table Durham at the Riverside. However, Derbyshire were taught a lesson in conviction as the home side put in a commanding display over the three days.

Following an even type of day on Friday, Durham set about Derbyshire with the ball over the course of the next couple led by Test hopeful Potts. The 27-year-old was a steady hand in the first innings allowing his quick bowling partner Kasey Aldridge to claim his first five wicket haul for his new county. Potts took command late on Saturday evening, picking up the first four wickets to leave Derbyshire on the brink overnight.
