Durham blasted their way to 203-8 from their 20 overs thanks to a half-century from Alex Lees and a 24-ball 48 from wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson. Morley impressed with the ball for Derbyshire with 3-35 from his four overs.
Derbyshire also gave debuts to new Pakistan international bowler Akif Javed and Jack Morley. Skipper Nye Donald won the toss and elected to field first on a warm evening at the Central Co-op County Ground in Derby.
Last season’s quarter-finalists Durham opened the batting with former England Test batter Lees with Graham Clark. The pair put on 77 for the first wicket before Lees was caught by Caleb Jewell off the bowling of Ben Aitchison for 54. Lees had faced only 28 balls but had shown some destructive batting with six fours and three sixes, especially off the bowling of Montgomery.
