Derbyshire made one change to the team, with Wayne Madsen returning to captain the side following his shoulder injury which he obtained in the T20 Cricket World Cup in early February. Muhammed Abbas was playing his last game for Derbyshire before returning to Pakistan after being selected for their Test series in Bangladesh.
The visitors, still smarting from their three losses to start the County Championship season, picked leg-spinner, Ed Middleton, whose last played first-class cricket in 2024, the 25-year-old spent some time playing for Devon last season.
