The Vitality Blast North Group match between Derbyshire Falcons and Yorkshire ended as a tie following a dramatic last over at Queen’s Park in front of a sell-out crowd. The result marked an astonishing ending to this year’s Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, where both teams were left to reflect whether it was a case of two points gained or two points dropped.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Nye Donald and Martin Andersson opened proceedings in typically aggressive fashion, but the Falcons captain was soon dismissed for 16. Promising young talent Yousaf Bin Naeem then arrived at the crease in his first Vitality Blast appearance of the season. Like Donald, the 19 year-old began his innings in blistering fashion but soon departed for a score of 20. An impressive third-wicket partnership of 69 between Andersson and Wayne Madsen built the platform for Derbyshire to set a very competitive target for Yorkshire to chase down.
