Derbyshire Falcons beat Bedfordshire at Lancot Park in Dunstable by 75 runs in a T20 friendly earlier today ahead of Sunday’s huge Vitality Blast North Group game away at Notts Outlaws.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first. Interestingly, there was a change to the Falcons starting line-up that has competed in all five of their games so far in the Vitality Blast, which was the arrival of Rory Haydon to come in for Akif Javed. From their 20 overs, Derbyshire reached 205-7 thanks in main to another scintillating performance from in-form Martin Andersson. The 29 year-old all-rounder fired a rapid knock of 74 from 30 deliveries, before being retired out and called back to the pavilion to give more batters some time at the crease.

Another highlight in Derbyshire’s innings included a score of 40 off 34 balls from Caleb Jewell, who once again batted at number three as he has done previously this season in the Vitality Blast. Meanwhile, Jake Tarling was the pick of the Bedfordshire bowlers with figures of 3-42.

In reply, Bedfordshire managed to bat out their allotted 20 overs but couldn’t get close to Derbyshire’s imposing target. Rory Haydon certainly took his opportunity and impressed with the ball after securing figures of 2-18 from his three overs. Ben Aitchison also pitched in with 2-27 to help restrict Derbyshire’s opponents. Despite just taking one wicket each, Jack Morley and Matt Montgomery were economical, conceding only 12 and 14 runs respectively from their three overs delivered. At the end of their innings, Bedfordshire were stranded on 130-9 to seal a very comfortable win for Mickey Arthur’s side.
