Dyson Disappointed With Latest Performance

Shortly after the match in Chesterfield, The Peakite spoke to the club’s Head of Women’s Cricket, Jon Dyson, for his initial assessment of the match. Dyson expressed disappointment with his side’s performance and conceded that they hadn’t played at their best:

“We didn’t bowl and field as well as we can do. There were some good catches but also two or three drops that we would have expected to have taken. There was a little bit of confusion around our bowling plans and bowling to two sides of the wicket, which is difficult at Chesterfield to defend both sides. A little bit of luck went Gloucestershire’s way in terms of balls landing in space a few times. 173 is always a big chase. We had to go from ball one, and a quiet three or four overs in the powerplay was too much to catch up. Although Frances (Lonsdale) and Lauren (Kenvyn) both batted very, very well where they got a 100-run partnership and both scored fifties, it was still not enough to win the game. We were around 40 short, gave them 20 extras again. It’s just small margins. If we get to within 20 and we make better use of those first three or four overs, then we’re in with a chance of getting something. It’s just a big ask to get to around 170. Prisha’s (Bedi) bowled really well again and took four wickets. But I’ve just spoken to the girls and I’ve said to them that we will only win games as a collective unit. We haven’t got any superstars in the side. We have to have 11 players out there and times those individuals by 11 to have a strong collective. So the fact that we had a 100 run partnership, two scores of 50 and one spinner takes four wickets – it’s not enough to win games. They’re all difficult games and we do have to think about the collective and being a stronger unit. So I’m quite disappointed today. I don’t think we were at our best, which is disappointing.”
