Donald Reflects On Extraordinary Queen's Park Game

Following yesterday's remarkable tied match against Yorkshire in Chesterfield, Derbyshire Falcons now find themselves on a run of three games without a victory in the Vitality Blast. If Mickey Arthur's side are to advance to the knockout phase of the competition for the first time since 2022, the squad knows that they will have to finish the group stage with a flourish.
The Peakite spoke to Falcons T20 captain Nye Donald shortly after the dramatic finale at Queen's Park and was asked firstly whether he felt it was a case of two points gained or two points dropped for Derbyshire:
"I think, maybe going into the last ball, it's probably two points gained. But probably, for the rest of the match, we certainly felt like we've let it slip there. I felt like we put a really good score on what we thought wasn't the flattest of Chesterfield wickets…we batted really well. Martin (Andersson) looks incredible at the top of the order, Yousaf (Bin Naeem) came in and showed what he can do and Wayne (Madsen) is back at his best…we started brilliantly with the ball. We felt like we got ahead of the game and took wickets throughout. As it looked like we were getting comfortable, we let them back in it. Fair play to Matty Revis at the end with his really clean hitting at the end. We just missed again. I think the bowlers will be disappointed that they just couldn't execute one or two balls. I think it was a compounding of errors that hurt us again. We knew they would play good shots on a wicket like that with small dimensions."
