Derbyshire won the toss for the second consecutive game and decided to bat first on a hot, sticky afternoon at Headlingley, Leeds. The Falcons named an unchanged side from Friday’s loss to Durham. Yorkshire included former England Test players, Adam Lyth, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Bess and Moeen Ali.

The Falcons opened the batting again with Martin Andersson coupled with skipper Nye Donald and it was the Welshman who fell first, scooping a Hasan Ali delivery to mid-off for just 10. Caleb Jewell joined Andersson and they pushed the score along to 59 in the seventh over before the Australian found Matthew Revis at deep cover from an Andrew Tye full toss.
