Derbyshire returned to action in Division Two of the County Championship earlier today, on a first day where both Mickey Arthur’s side and hosts Durham both enjoyed strong spells of momentum in a see-saw contest at Banks Homes Riverside.
The visitors would certainly have been satisfied with their start after winning the toss and electing to bowl first. With Durham at 156-4, Derbyshire’s bowling attack had given themselves a very useful platform to build on with the weather also on its best behaviour at Chester-le-Street. Two of those first four wickets came from Ben Aitchison, who very much looked like a seamer eager to continue where he left off with the red ball last month against Middlesex at the home of cricket.
