It was billed as Abbas versus Anderson in the pre-match hype and the Pakistan international didn’t disappoint picking up three wickets. However, it was Derbyshire’s Matthew Montgomery who top-scored on a difficult day for batting.

With a crowd of over 1500 at the picturesque council park on day one, Derbyshire won the toss and put the red rose county in to bat first. Mickey Arthur’s men made a couple of changes from the loss to Division Two leaders Durham last week. Nick Potts and somewhat surprisingly, Shoaib Bashir were left out, with Rory Haydon and Anuj Dal coming into the side. Dal made his first appearance for the side since being stretchered off with an ankle injury against Gloucestershire earlier in the season.
