Derbyshire recovered from losing two wickets from the first couple of deliveries of the match to reach 300 all out from their first innings on the opening day of their County Championship Division Two fixture at home against Kent. At the close of play, the visitors were 11-1 in their response.
The big question heading into this opening day was how would Derbyshire respond to such a poor defeat away at Gloucestershire last week? Within five minutes of the start of the match against Kent, Derbyshire were already two wickets down. It was the stuff of nightmares. Firstly, Harry Came edged to Zak Crawley from the very first delivery of the match. Jaws then dropped as Matthew Montgomery was trapped leg before wicket following the second ball of the contest. Astonishingly, Hasan Mahmud was on a hat-trick already. 0-2 off 0.2 overs.
