Derbyshire take on Kent from Tuesday to Friday this week at The OurCoop County Ground in Division Two of the County Championship. Mickey Arthur's side will be desperate for a victory following a run of three successive matches without a win which has ended their hopes of promotion.
Let's not beat around the bush here. Derbyshire have been absolutely woeful in these last three red ball games. Firstly, they were thrashed by Durham at home. Durham were, of course, favourites to win that game but a winning margin of 338 runs was unacceptable. This is the heaviest defeat (in terms of runs) in Derbyshire's entire 156-year history. Secondly, they avoided defeat against Middlesex but there were still concerns whenever the rain stopped to allow play. Middlesex were bold enough to forfeit their own team's first innings in a bid to win the contest, and Derbyshire were genuinely under pressure for a while before managing to fight off the prospect of Middlesex attempting to win the match in T20 fashion with the bat in the final session.
