Alan Hill’s time as a Derbyshire player spanned 14 years, from 1972 to 1986, which included the remarkable NatWest Trophy triumph in 1981. There is no doubt that Alan’s long, devoted tenure and his contribution towards the club winning silverware, certifies him as a Derbyshire County Cricket Club legend.
The Peakite were delighted to speak to Alan Hill recently about his time as a Derbyshire player as well as his involvements with the club afterwards. It comes across crystal clear that the club still means a huge amount to him and his passion for Derbyshire hasn’t wavered one bit.
Alan was born in 1950 in Buxworth, a village that lies within the High Peak region of Derbyshire. He recalls his breakthrough for playing for his home county and how much of an honour it was to him:
