Abbas Impresses But Pakistan Fall To Defeat

Despite Derbyshire player Muhammad Abbas' superb overall match figures of 8-85 with the ball, Pakistan slumped to a 90 run defeat against the West Indies with a day to spare at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. This was the first of a two-match test series between the two sides in the Caribbean.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. The Windies were all out for 311, which included half centuries for Shai Hope and Kavem Hodge. Abbas took figures of 3-63 and secured six maidens from his 26 overs bowled.
In response, the Shaheens were all out for 282 after losing their last seven wickets for only 38 runs. Former Derbyshire batter Shan Masood secured a century, while Abbas was dismissed for a duck. This innings will be remembered for a remarkable piece of history in which West Indies seamer Justin Greaves bowled five consecutive wicket maiden overs – the first time in the history of test match cricket that such a sequence has ever been seen.
